Ángel specializes in taxation matters, international trade and anti-money laundering (AML). He is recognized as one of Mexico´s key experts in complicated tax matters that involve both litigation and tax planning. He advises multi-national enterprises groups (MNE´s) and Mexican companies in expanding and strengthening their business. Ángel has a solid and thorough background in federal income tax and international tax, international trade, AML and has more than seventeen years of expertise counselling diverse sectors, including finance, real estate, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, and retail.
Ángel graduated as an attorney from the Escuela Libre de Derecho with honors, and received his Master of Laws in Taxation from Universidad Panamericana. He has also attended a number of courses on international taxation, including an Advanced Professional Certificate in International Taxation of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD). He is a certified professional in AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Terrorist Financing) by the Mexican Banking and Securities Commission. Additionally, he is currently pursuing a degree as Public Accountant from the Escuela Bancaria y Comercial in Mexico City. He actively participates in various international associations and chambers of commerce including The International Bar Association (IBA), The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and The Society of Trust and State Practitioners (STEP).
Prior to joining Nader, Hayaux & Goebel, Ángel founded a prestigious tax boutique in Mexico where he was a partner during five years.
Ángel is recognized by various leading legal publications, such as Legal 500, Who´s Who Legal and International Tax Review. He has been identified as a leading lawyer in Mexico in tax and international trade by numerous editorials. ITR shortlisted his previous firm for the Best Mexican law firm in tax in 2017 and 2018. Who´s Who Legal has discerned him for his expertise in tax, international trade on both an international and local level. In 2019 he was distinguished as Thought Leader in Corporate Tax. Legal 500 launched in September 2018 states: “Straightforward’ founding partner Ángel Escalante led on all cases. He is ‘very experienced and has considerable technical knowledge’”.
