Yves Hayaux-du-Tilly is a partner at Nader Hayaux Goebel and is recognized as one of Latin America’s leading authorities in insurance and reinsurance law, as well as in climate and nature governance.

Over 35 years he has advised Mexican and foreign insurers, reinsurers, multinationals, business owners, governments and investors on the most sophisticated transactions and disputes in the insurance sector, as well as on financing and M&A transactions across Mexico and the Latin American region.

Yves also works with investors, family offices and the next generation of leaders who understand that climate and nature are no longer peripheral concerns, but a responsibility and most certainly, an opportunity, that belongs in the boardroom. He helps them bring these issues to the highest level of governance and turn them into decisions: from meeting directors’ fiduciary duties in the face of climate change, to designing investment and governance strategies aligned with the transition to a net-zero economy.

Chambers and Partners recognizes him personally as a Star Individual in Insurance in its Latin America Guide 2026, a distinction he has held without interruption for nearly two decades, as the only Mexican lawyer so ranked in the field; and also recognizes Nader Hayaux Goebel as the only Mexican firm ranked by Chambers in Tier 1, without interruption since the rankings began.

He leads Nader Hayaux Goebel highly regarded and leading (Re)Insurance Practice, and its innovative Working Groups supporting clients in their Sustainable Transition (ESG) and in Corporate Integrity initiatives. He established Nader Hayaux Goebel’s pioneering London office, and has been leading such office during fifteen years, becoming the go-to Mexican lawyer for the European market where he has been advising insurers, international law firms and corporations on their business in general and particularly in their reinsurance operations, involving Mexico and Latin America.

Yves is founder and Co-Chair of Chapter Zero Mexico, a member of the board of Chapter Zero UK and a patron of the Chapter Zero Alliance; he sits on the Presidential Council of the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA), chairs its Climate Change and Catastrophic Risks Working Party and was elected Vice-President of its Executive Committee (2023–2027). He is a member of The Nature Connection Network and of the Pollinators Council of Huerto Roma Verde; an honorary member of the Commercial Bar (COMBAR); and founder and Honorary Chair of the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain (MexCC).

He is author and co-author of reference works in both of his fields. • Regularly represents more than thirty foreign reinsurers in maintaining their registration with the General Registry of Foreign Reinsurers to take reinsurance risk from Mexican cedents.
• Represented Grupo Nacional Provincial on establishing GNP International, Ltd., obtaining Lloyd’s authorization to invest as a corporate member, and its strategic partnership with Sompo Canopius.
• Represented CMIG International, a subsidiary of China Minsheng Investment, in the acquisition of Old Mutual’s Latin American operations (Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay).
• Advised Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. on its investment and voting agreements with the founding family of W. R. Berkley Corporation, involving the indirect acquisition of two Mexican insurance companies.
• Represented Tokio Marine HCC on the corporate, regulatory and legal aspects of establishing its surety subsidiary in Mexico.
• Represented AXA on the structuring and implementation of its partnership with Keralty SAS to create Mexico’s first integrated primary-health program.
• Advises Starr Insurance Companies on the structuring and implementation of one of the first fully integrated Managing General Agent (MGA) models in the Mexican insurance market.
• Advised Sofía, a leading Mexican health-focused insurtech, on its USD 13.5 million investment round led by Kfund, with participation from Index Ventures, Kaszek and IDB Lab.
• Represented Principal Financial Group in the transfer of its insurance and pensions portfolio to Seguros Banorte.
• Advises Olé Life on the launch of its insurance operations in Mexico, including a joint venture with Aseguradora Patrimonial and the registration of its foreign reinsurer.
• Advises Zurich Group on a strategic long-term joint venture with Actinver Group for the exclusive distribution of Zurich insurance products and the incorporation of a jointly owned insurer.
• Advises Bupa México on a long-term joint venture with Grupo Nacional Provincial to implement a vertically integrated healthcare and insurance model in Mexico.
• Advises MAPFRE México and Solunion América Holding on the sale and acquisition of 100% of MAPFRE Fianzas, subject to CNSF authorization.
• Advises Cardif México Seguros Generales and BNP Paribas Cardif on the transfer of an insurance portfolio to Chubb Seguros México, including regulatory filings before the CNSF.
• Acted as special reinsurance counsel to Seguros BBVA and BBVA Seguros Colombia in claims and arbitration proceedings against foreign reinsurers under a Catastrophe XL Reinsurance Agreement.
• Advises Energía Eólica and Macquarie on insurance claims and litigation arising from the forced abandonment of a wind-farm construction project in Oaxaca, Mexico.
• Advised La Costeña on the structuring, negotiation and procurement of a representations and warranties insurance policy in connection with its acquisition of Comercializadora Mac’Ma.
• Advises Konfío on a crime insurance claim against Generali arising from fraudulent acts by STP that affected Konfío’s assets, resulting in accepted policy payment.
• Acted as Mexican insurance regulatory expert in international dispute proceedings involving Thona Seguros and Summit Reinsurance Services, providing expert analysis on Mexican insurance supervisory powers.
